Senator the Hon Robert Hill

Minister for the Environment and Heritage

Suite MG 68

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Dear Minister

I am writing again regarding the Supplement to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the Second Sydney Airport Proposal.

The New South Wales Government has considered the environmental impacts identified in the final EIS, including the estimate in the EIS that $1 billion would be required for off-site infrastructure to service the airport.

State Government agencies and Treasury have developed a detailed study and costing of the environmental impacts, including the cost of providing the necessary road and rail access required for the proposed airport at Badgerys Creek. The report shows that the actual cost of environmental impacts and off-site infrastructure (especially the transport costs) is more than $4 billion.

As a result of this detailed costing of the necessary off-site infrastructure, the New South Wales Government believes the overall net economic benefit of an airport at Badgerys Creek is brought into question.

The New South Wales Government re-affirms its opposition to the proposed airport at Badgerys Creek, and asks that an alternative site be considered outside the Sydney basin.

Yours sincerely

Minister for Information Technology

Minister for Energy, Minister for Forestry, and

Minister for Western Sydney
