February A decision is now likely by the end of February - The Western Sydney Alliance will be organising Buses to Canberra for protesters to hammer the decision makers in Parliament House, stay tuned for bus pick-up points and go or forever be a garden gnome. MEDIA STATEMENT 4 February 2000 Wicked Deceit. Recent media has been indicating that the Badgerys airport proposal has now been reduced to a "Baby Badgerys", and that this is what Minister Anderson will be taking to cabinet. To say that this is a new proposal is an absolute deceit. The 1997 Sydney UBD showed a single runway on the option A/B alignment, directed at the heart of Sydney, map 244. This airport alignment has continued to be shown in all maps since that time, including the recently released UBD and Gregorys 2000 editions. We have contacted Universal Press about this and are informed that this airport information has been continually provided to them by the Federal Department of Transport, who are the proponents of the proposed airport. It is worth noting that this information was provided to Universal Press in 1996 - BEFORE THE EIS COMMENCED. No where throughout the EIS however, has this "Baby Badgerys" proposal been properly discussed. If this Government was ever serious about this baby airport proposal, and they now allow it to go ahead, their deceit will have been duplicitous, since they have allowed a great many new homes to be built in the direct affected area, and have spent millions of tax dollars on the construction of an Olympic equestrian centre, and an Olympic outdoor shooting range; both of which would be rendered useless by this airport. No matter which proposal the Department should favour, there are still critical elements of knowledge not identified, such as intensity or incidence of wind shear, economic sustainability of any proposal, genuine incidence of fog, or cumulative environmental impact etc etc. The Alliance of Councils is organising a bus convoy to Parliament House, Canberra, for concerned residents to be able to voice their protest directly, and FRAAN urges concerned people to please make the effort to join the protest. March FRAAN is conducting a number of Info Days through-out March encouraging the public to send letters to the Prime Minister and Cabinet, these letters are very successful and are now doing the rounds all around Sydney including the North Shore. April May June Poll fear to delay Badgerys decision Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 2nd June 2000 page 3 The Federal Liberal Government has decided a decision on Badgerys Creek may not be given until after the next election due by October 2001 or before this month if they call it early. 4th paragraph states "a spokesman for the P.M. last night said a decision was expected mid-year and a combination of rail and airport was being considered." Beware of misinformation! ################################################################# More people will now protest against this Airport at Badgerys Creek because it will cost them more under the GST to move into another home if its given the go ahead. Second Airport Decision Date Set The Daily Telegraph 6th June 2000 page 2 New date for meetings 17th and 18th July 2000 when cabinet will start deliberations leading to a decision in August to basically dismantle the proposal for an airport at Badgerys Creek with a national solution being pushed by our fellow Australians in Victoria. 1)The article states the Prime Minister has called for the final decision early. 2)It also mentions that the decision will settle the second airport issue without further antagonising voters in Western Sydney, the people have shown over considerable time that they don't want the airport. 3) Residents affected by KSA and to the north of Sydney who want aircraft noise reduced and Victorian interests with a national approach have also been waiting. 4) A decision on the Very Fast Train is expected between Sydney - Canberra - Melbourne and a call for an E.I.S. into the proposed route and project. 5) The airport at Badgerys Creek would cost - estimated at $9 billion dollars. (As always under-estimated) The estimated cost of the VFT Rail link approx. $550 million /less taxes paid by the constructors. Deadline False Penrith Press Tuesday 13th June 2000 page 1 Airport Date still in limbo Recent media (Herald 2nd of June and Telegraph 6th of June) indicates that a decision on the proposed Badgerys Creek airport will be delivered before the end of August this year. This is not however, substanciated by any apparent media release from either Minister Andersons or the Prime Ministers office. Sadly, the community has been fed a continuation of "a decision soon" for almost 20 years, without a solid answer, never however, more frequently than has been the case recently. This airport issue is not over until the Prime Minister himself announces that the airport is NOT going ahead at Badgerys Creek in any shape or form, including baby size. AS ALWAYS BE AWARE OF MEDIA MIS-INFORMATION! The following is a wake up call for voters. The Badgerys Creek airport issue is a threat to the people who live in Western Sydney, for rural & regional NSW, and for the whole Sydney Basin population. The longer it drags on for, the less respect the Liberal government will have at the ballot box. Full election term ends October 2001. Federal Labor It is still Federal Labor Party policy to build an airport at Badgerys Creek, as has been the case since 1985 when they were in government and it was their decision to pick this proposed airport location. Why the party still wishes to proceed with this policy for an airport at Badgerys Creek is a mystery when it wants to win the next Federal election with key seats in Western Sydney. Speed Rail Warning The Daily Telegraph July 29th page 9 The speed rail consortium has given the Federal Government a warning to make a decision by the 23rd of August or forget the whole proposal. They will walk and cannot wait forever. The P.M. and Minister for Transport are aware of the alert. October Federal cabinet had a meeting on 24th of October about Badgerys Creek and a possible estimate of that meeting was given to the newspapers, inflaming the innercity people, was the estimate deliberate and by whom? The Daily Telegraph 26th of October page 6. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH John Howard has promised a decision on Badgerys Creek by christmas 2000. Come on John Come on! November People Power has had its wake up call and people are starting to organise for the good of all men and women and their children, for a better future. People come together when they are oppressed and down trodden to lift up their hearts and fight the evil that pervades their lives, history has seen it all before. People power, is like a tidal wave that is un-stopable for those that think they have control, the controller beware that you yourself do not know how to live yet you are forcing the rest of us to be happy with your plan of how we should live. December Federal Cabinet is expected to discuss Badgerys Creek today Monday the 11th to 12th of December 2000. Hopefully this will be the last meeting on the subject and they will give Western Sydney a well deserved Christmas present and abandon the 2nd Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek officially for ever. Cabinets Decision 13th of December 2000 "Airport Canned for now" 1. We now have the land at Badgerys Creek locked up or frozen for future use - still owned by the Federal Government. 2. The Fast Rail or "very fast train" has been killed off. 3. Kingsford Smith to be expanded by taking larger jets. 4. Bankstown airport to be expanded to take larger jets.
