Australian Internet "Grid" -  Copyright: 13th of August 2003.      Ken Lawson

The Internet is undergoing a revolution with a massive leap into the future when the "North American Grid" starts around 2010.

Basically it has new applied technology, it is the next generation of the Internet.

Massive high speed parallel processing networks that will allow huge processing power and speed potential for all users connected
to the "Grid".

Immense parallel processing power available for large scientific research projects into all kinds of diseases, cancer, astronomy and
so on.

Users connect via new high speed broadband fibre optic cable and share processor time with research projects, with huge speed

Australia needs an "Internet Grid" of its own and we have the time to design the ultimate computing network beyond anything yet conceived, a vision far ahead of any generation in history, this backbone optical fibre infrastructure may span centuries to come.

Copper cables were the technology of their own time, time has moved on, new exciting high speed technologies are on the horizon,
some of these technologies are here already, technology is on the radar and on the map, every thing you do now, in computing will scream into the future, on the Australian Internet GRID.

This could be built on the Badgerys Creek site as part of this proposal with electrical power supplied by the "Electricity Supply
Substation" at Horsley Park.

Telecommunications class - glass fibre cables could then be installed along the gas pipe route to Victoria and north into
Queensland, following the electricity grid, then onto the other states with "Grid" data centres for their states connections.

1. Cost effective, alternative huge computing power, determined by number of users connected - instead of dedicated super
computer used by single institution.

2. "The Australian Internet Grid" will allow the move from 32 bit processors to the new 64 bit processor technology and software.

3. The "Australian Internet Grid" will allow the move to new 3D technologies with the new 3D monitors being developed for release
in the next decade.

Telecommunications Technical Revolution

4. The "Australian Internet Grid" will introduce end to end optical fibre connections to homes and businesses large and small,
a complete upgrade of the telecommunications cable infrastructure from the old copper network we now endure with buggy and
obsolete copper communications interfaces.

5. The "Australian Internet Grid" will help to finally put all cables underground including power, cable TV, telephone and rid our
streets of those ugly and dangerous power poles, the cause of many horrific car and motor bike accidents.

6. The "Australian Internet Grid" will bring convergence between Internet and digital television, live news reporting can be transmitted
or uploaded via point to point Internet software to the television stations without any loss of picture quality prior to broadcast or live broadcast.

7. Content for digital television will be able to be sourced from the "Australian Internet Grid" allowing new industries to be created in
digital arts, animation and virtual movie making and interactive Digital 2D/3D TV.

Graphic artists will be able to work collectively on large multi-media projects from many locations around Australia within the
"Australian Internet Grid" system and send their work direct to television stations or to manufacture on digital storage media.

8. Doctors and specialists operating in hospitals will be able to enhance their visual video conference facilities away from the
problematic copper telephone network and relieve them of the many fault areas in current technology including - ISDN, ADSL
broadband, multiplexed Cable / coaxial broadband.

The current copper telephone - data system has many areas where faults can occur.

A) Exchange equipment.
B) Cable and connections.
C) RIMS    - Current problem for broadband installation.
D) Pair Gain   - Current problem for broadband installation.

Copper telephone system can remain as backup for voice communications in the event of regional power failure and maintained, telephone exchanges have their own built in D.C. power backup systems for emergency telephone calls when local mains power is switched off through a fault or electrical storms.

End to end fibre optic cabling will be more efficient, less faults and faults fixed quicker and services restored faster, hospitals could
have backup systems built in with re-routing of services via software, internally controlled by the hospital IT section - control room.

Hospitals of the future may have internal fibre optic networks for patient central monitoring, current patient diagnostic equipment is
not monitored at a central command room requiring nursing staff in the vicinity to be vigilant, the future is software monitoring and
alarm systems instead of current indicator lamps or buzzers at nurses control desks.

Each hospital bed could have a colour video display communications system with patient sensors monitoring vital signs.

This technology now becomes critical as new robotic 3D surgeon display, operating machines are being used live by remote
surgeons, for invasive surgery tasks.

9. Existing Internet structure via current telephone network will still remain viable for existing computer based communications and
e-mail allowing sending and receiving or downloading - remote locations will still need a copper service for data and a telephone for
normal voice communications after fibre optic cables are installed (power outages), cities would be connected first for revenue
building to finance work for the interior, regional and remote locations.

No e-mail downloading services will be allowed on the "Australian Internet GRID".

The "Australian Internet GRID" users computers will be free from viruses, trojan spyware, worms,
junk mail, identity fraud and hacking attempts.

The current E-Mail structure should remain where it is, as it is the constant source of viruses and hack attacks and junk mail.

The "Australian Internet GRID" constructed as a carrier will provide fibre optic cable capacity for third party ISP's as a separate
network, totally separate to the Australian Internet GRID structure and operation.
Charges will apply for third party services on "Australian Internet GRID" fibre optic cables, billed to the provider of the service.
Pricing will be announced.

The "Australian Internet GRID" will force all existing commercial ISP's to scan incoming mail for junk mail, viruses and trojan
spyware for the cost of providing the account.

10. The "Australian Internet GRID" will have e-mail sending but the e-mail sending will be done from web page forms on the web
pages or from links leading to a e-mail web page form.

Mail will be sent via the hosted site owners, provided server scripts, only from the "Australian Internet GRID".

11. The "Australian Internet GRID" will be a totally independent network with stricter controls on content and services.

Web pages will have to confirm to integrity checks, standards and content and display authorisation seals of approval with virus
tests of all files for download.

Web sites will be controlled in size and bandwidth on download to allow maximum bandwidth of the "Australian Internet GRID".

The "Australian Internet GRID" will be a secure network with intelligence behind a stealth curtain, hardware firewall with
automatic server assigned dynamic or random IP addresses to prevent hacking attempts.

Hacking attempts will reload a new user IP address without loss of page connection.

12. Users of the "Australian Internet GRID" will have to have hardware dongles or USB keys encoded and encrypted to allow
access to services.

Dongle or USB key in the back of the computer and one connected to the fibre optic cable interface to compare both keys,
memory must be hardware locked.

These keys will allow minimal setup of the users computer.

The keys will be encoded when service is initialised by a governing authority in each state.

Users of the current Internet will be able to access "Australian Internet GRID" services via spare bandwidth allocated by a central
governing bandwidth traffic meter - control computer.

13. Users of the "Australian Internet GRID" will allow their spare processor time to be used co-operatively by scientific research
facilities while connected and using the "Australian Internet GRID".

All "Australian Internet GRID" software and services based on 64 bit technology will have "Australian Internet GRID"
software engines as a requirement for connection and sharing of spare processor time.

Current software, including Internet browsing will not work when directly connected to the "Australian Internet GRID".

Software will have to confirm to "GRID Enabled" logo to allow maximum use of the "Australian Internet GRID".

14. Users of the "Australian Internet GRID" will be able to sign up for point to point video (PtoPV) feeds and 3D digital interactive
movies and standard 2D/3D digital movies.

Data - including The Australian Internet GRID web pages.
The user member will have choices on content required and subscribe via 64 bit dynamic or random IP addresses x2
(1 upload and 1 download) for their Australian Internet GRID data connection into the home or office which will only take a
few hours to switch on, when cabled and payment is received.

2D/3D Video Telephone

64 bit static or fixed IP addresses x2  (1 upload and 1 download) for their telephone fibre optic service, via installed fibre optic
cables into the home or office which will only take a few hours to switch on, when cabled and payment is received.

There will be no need to send a serviceman out to the premises to do any cable work, once Australian Internet GRID cables are

Services on the "Australian Internet GRID" will be partitioned, requiring access authorisation by payment.

The "Australian Internet GRID" will be totally independent of the world Internet, it will be Australia's Domestic Communications
Carrier system and will be future proof with the fibre optic backbone structure.

All hosting of services on the "Australian Internet GRID" will be contained within and on the "Australian Internet GRID".

This will ensure financial integrity of the "Australian Internet GRID" in its structural building years.

Over time the "Australian Internet GRID" will grow into Australia's Premier Super Computer.

15. The "Australian Internet GRID" will take advantage and implement new emerging technologies in hardware and software.

Nano Technologies and associated embedded technologies.
Photonics and industrial applications.
Artificial Intelligence functions and voice communication.
Cancer Research.
Geography and mapping in 3D.
Gene Therapy
3D simulations and movies.
Physics and Astro Physics.
Science experiments live for school students.
Fusion Power Research.
Quantum Computing.
Global warming research to find cures for current scenarios.
Defence Systems and 3D simulators, Army, Navy, Airforce - including command centres and remote sensing via secure networks.
More to be added.

16. The "Australian Internet GRID" will initially be built around available technologies until Quantum Computers become available,
then the "Australian Internet GRID" will be upgraded to Quantum Computing as the central core "Australian Internet GRID" structure.

17. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for 2D/3D Video Telephone will be handled by a separate network of computers, that will
share processor time back to the "Australian Internet GRID" in off peak times via "Carrier Grade Linux" with
"Australian Internet GRID" bandwidth sharing technology.

Australian Internet GRID operating system and browser allowing computer desktop 2D/3D video telephones or embedded computer
in individual stand alone handset, with or without display. (Internet Video Telephone) or (IVT).

Internet Protocol (IP) will replace the need for business to install small PABX systems and give far greater media rich content and
control over corporate LAN systems with caller video streaming 3D technology on the 2D/3D Video desktop or individual (IP)

Gone will be the days of moves and changes of PABX extensions as next generation PABX systems will have networked Internet IP facilities, these will be handled within corporate businesses by systems operations managers.

Some new generation PABX systems are already heading in this direction.

Office workers will be able to see each other over the duration of the call, outside callers will also see the person they are talking to
while the call is in progress on the Australian Internet GRID 2D/3D video display.

18. The optical fibre cable roll - out for domestic addresses.

Installation charged by private contractor to central point in home or office into a break out box for easy connection to internal fibre
optic cables in various locations with wall points for connections for the customer equipment.

Services can then be connected via fibre optic patch leads to the equipment.

2x glass fibres for 2x independent computer channels for "Australian Internet GRID" use.
1x glass fibre for IP dedicated, standard Internet video telephones, fax, normal Internet account, other communications equipment.
1x glass fibre for PAY Television - other provider service.
2x Spare glass fibres for future use, security over IP or other, including PtoP Games.

The amount of cables will allow, different locations within the premises to be serviced without the problem of overloading bandwidth internally and provide security and user freedom to locate services to where they are needed as required.

19. Businesses medium and large, corporate -
Requirements will be determined on individual needs basis plus spare capacity for future growth.

20. Small business will be offered a basic services fibre capacity similar to residential.

21. Business or pleasure with download speeds exceeding 50 megabytes per second allowing video streaming and virtual
"Australian Internet GRID" shopping centres.

22. The "Australian Internet Grid" will become the hub of the "Oceanic region" including what is called the economic region -
The Oceanic Pacific Block including New Zealand and Pacific Nations, we have a chance to develop this technology and export it
to the rest of the world, new innovative solutions in software and hardware, if we could do this, it would free us from our reliance on
mining and farming at present to become a technological solutions, supplier country.

The "Australian Internet Grid" will also bring new revenue into Australia from users in the Oceanic region and possibly Europe as
they will find it a better alternative security arrangement.

Already Pacific Island Nations are being encouraged to join the Australian economic zone with the adoption of the Australian
$Dollar. The Oceanic Powerhouse - the beginning.

23. The "Australian Internet Grid" will stimulate investment in the Information Technology Arena with investment from research funds
into new technology in all areas of the economy in Australia, it will also bring a revolution of new high technology equipment from
equipment manufacturers fueling whole economies influenced by their technology sector, including installation of communications
GRIDS in other countries. Australia would be a technological leader, leading the rest of the world.

IP Number Portability for Australian Internet GRID 2D/3D Video Telephones
and Standard IP Desk Telephones

24. Example of this is - Say your residential living or business location, is in Sydney and you want to move to Brisbane, once your Australian Internet GRID account is activated in Sydney, your existing Sydney Australian Internet GRID, IP Telephone Number will
be the same IP Telephone Number in Brisbane, no need to change your IP Telephone Number.

Just unplug your Australian Internet GRID computer or your 2D/3D Desk Telephone and take it to your new address and reconnect
to your new wall point with your account member user interface device and the service is activated.

Technical Limitations for business: The amount of fibre optic cables installed in your present business location for your business
needs would have to equal the exact amount at the new location or destination, if not you would have to have new fibre optic cables installed to equal what is already existing or used.

Home owners with 6 fibre optic cables installed would have no problem if the house they are moving to has 6 fibre optic cables

Present location must equal destination location to provide all services owned and operated by the user member.

With the Australian Internet GRID service at the new location, your ready to settle into your new home or business address.

Note! electricity would need to be turned on, in your account name at the new address prior to moving.

Activation will be automatic with connection to the Australian Internet GRID fibre optic service, with Australia wide
IP number portability for all people who move to a new address, simply plug in your account device to activate your account in the
new location, via the provided wall point and adapter device and the service is on, this will be a standard feature of the Australian
Internet GRID.

Pensioners visiting relatives will be able to take their voice over IP (VoIP) 2D/3D service account with them when visiting for several
days or weeks, just plug it in to the account adapter interface already in the house and your friends calls will arrive.

Business Portability with less cost

If you own a business, no need to buy new stationary after moving, many businesses have been penalised in the past, outlaying for stationary, then having to throw business cards and letter heads away after moving premises.

A single business address is all that needs to be put in place, this could be covered by a IP Telephone number with voice
announcement recording, giving the address with function repeat to make it easy to decipher and write down before it diverts to the operator.

The office contact IP telephone number will be the most important business tool and will be portable within Australia or the Oceanic
region as other nations join.

Australian Internet GRID LAN Data Extensions Service

Corporate and business LAN Data Extensions service will only need one primary computer room over the Australian Internet GRID,
this will allow centralised computer rooms to move out of the office and can be relocated to a remote location, this will also include,
small offices as part of a national office network can be connected to their head office and/or retail shops point of sale PC's (POS) becoming part of the business LAN structure for the first time.

This would free up some office space currently taken up by huge computer rooms in CBD buildings where rent is at a premium and
allow some of this space to be utilised or reduced as office space in some high rise buildings.

Retail and small offices would then have internal network e-mail service over the LAN with database connectivity over the external
LAN network live, over the same communications fibre optic backbone.

Current computer data communications are like two tin cans joined with a piece of string, the potential for fast LAN Ethernet Cat6 is
not there and will never be there over copper.

25. The Australian Internet GRID will be a competitor for live broadcasts including - Live horse racing contracts, special events,
live news and VideoCam submissions from the public, permanent stationed videocams and security monitoring contracts.

More to be added. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

26. The Australian Internet GRID will coordinate emergency services with 3D location mapping and GPS coordinates which can
be sent to emergency service vehicles, to fix the wrong address problem and improve response times.

Service with a smile, you want it when? That's Ok we'll be there and get it all sorted out for you, you are a valued member

All Internet users may have limited access to other functions of the "Australian Internet GRID" except the paid subscribers who
would have guaranteed access to the higher functions of the "Australian Internet GRID".

This is new age technology with fortunes to be made in the higher technologies that will be directly linked to our universities and
private research and development centres of excellence.

The open source community will also have a role to play in developing the software engines to drive the grid into the extreme,
computing power that will become available to the masses.

The Linux open source community (GPL) has been the driving force world wide to make computing available to everyone, to not only
those who can afford to buy software, everyone can now participate in this world, provided they have a power point to plug their
computer in.

I have noticed the interest in GRID computing has taken off, with many Linux companies now either purchase targets or alliance
partners and I think this shift in thinking will bring a new revolution in computing and give the software developers an insight into
where their future focus may be.

Thanks to the many thousands of people who have seen this proposal including the Media, Computer Magazines and Federal Government members and some of the largest IT computer corporations in the world.
